Jekyll Detail Generator

A Jekyll generator to create pages for each element of a collection.

Install the gem and add to the application's Gemfile by executing:

$ bundle add jekyll-detail-generator

If bundler is not being used to manage dependencies, install the gem by executing:

$ gem install jekyll-detail-generator

First, add the plugin to _config.yml:

  - jekyll-detail-generator

Then, configure the generator so that it knows how to read your collection:

detail_page_gen:
  - collection: galleries
    children_property: arts
    layout: artdetail
    title_property: title
    url_property: identifier

In this case, the generator would look in the _galleries folder and scan through each file. It would expect the elements of the collection to be under the property "arts", and for each element to then contain a title and identifier property. Title will be used to title the page, identifier will be used to generate a unique url in the form of "/filename/url_property". Each generated page will use the layout artdetail.html, which is in turn passed each property of the element under "item".

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake test to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and the created tag, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
