DinoManagement

A Ruby gem for managing dinosaur data, including health calculations, status determination, and category summaries.

Installation

Install the gem and add to the application's Gemfile by executing:

bundle add dino_management

If bundler is not being used to manage dependencies, install the gem by executing:

gem install dino_management

Usage

DinoManagement provides functionality to process dinosaur data and calculate various metrics:

require 'dino_management'

# Example dinosaur data
dinos = [
  { 'name' => 'TRex', 'category' => 'carnivore', 'period' => 'Cretaceous', 'diet' => 'meat', 'age' => 60 },
  { 'name' => 'Brachiosaurus', 'category' => 'herbivore', 'period' => 'Jurassic', 'diet' => 'plants', 'age' => 80 }
]

# Process the dinosaur data
result = DinoManagement.run(dinos)

# Access the processed data
result[:dinos].each do |dino|
  puts "#{dino[:name]} is #{dino[:comment]} with health #{dino[:health]} and age metrics #{dino[:age_metrics]}"
end

# Access category summaries
puts "Categories summary: #{result[:summary]}"

Features

  • Health Calculation: Determines dinosaur health based on age, category, and diet.
  • Status Determination: Sets dinosaur status as 'Alive' or 'Dead' based on calculated health.
  • Age Metrics: Calculates additional age-based metrics for living dinosaurs.
  • Category Summaries: Provides count summaries of dinosaurs by category.

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake spec to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and the created tag, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
