We use this library at GitHub to detect blob languages, highlight code, ignore binary files, suppress generated files in diffs, and generate language breakdown graphs.

highlight-code will help you post-process an XHTML document containing code examples in pre or code tags so that the code is highlighted. The pre and code tags need to follow the class conventions from Alex Gorbatchev's SyntaxHighlighter (http://alexgorbatchev.com/SyntaxHighlighter/) Javascript library. The resulting file can be used for an eBook.

While Parade does not currently provide anything near the variety of many other presentation packages, it is well-suited for basic presentations. * Design Flexibility (pros and cons) > Unless you're skilled in CSS/Animations, you will likely have a harder time creating presentations with as much polish as other programs provide. However, this approach also makes Parade incredibly flexible if you do understand CSS/Animations.

"Harsh: Another Rails Syntax Highlighter," is just that - it highlights code in Rails, much like Radiograph or tm_syntax_highlighting. However, it does it well, _better_. Oh, and it also supports Haml, as well as ERb. And it comes with rake tasks. So how on earth are we going to customize it to our heart's delight? Easily, my friend, fret not! You don't need the config line, though. Also, notice that you can have spaces between the arguments and the little = sign. This is a syntax highlighter plugin for Kramdown that leverages Tree-sitter's native syntax highlighter to highlight code blocks (and spans) when rendering HTML. Tree-sitter is a modern, general-purpose parsing library that outclasses many existing tools at the task of syntax highlighting. This plugin adapts Tree-sitter's native highlighter for Kramdown, so that Tree-sitter's superior highlighting capabilities can be easily leveraged in the context of rendering Markdown.

Embed highlighted code snippets from a file.

Converts text formatted with an exceedingly simple markup language into valid HTML (iron clad guarantee!) - perfect for comments on your blog. Textile isn't good for this because not only does it do too much (do commenters really need subscript?), but it can also output invalid HTML (try a <b> tag over multiple lines...). Whitelisting HTML is another option, but you still need some sort of parsing if you want syntax highlighting. Integrates with CodeRay for sexy syntax highlighting.
