RiakRecord

RiakRecord is a thin and immature wrapper around riak-ruby-client. It creates a bucket for each class, provides a simple finder, and creates attribute accessors for data and indexes. It adds a layer over the Riak::Client to make interacting with Riak more ActiveRecord-like while still giving you all the access to Riak's underlying client's capabilities.

RiakRecord is is very similar to Basho's Ripple which is more feature rich but also abandoned. For the same reasons that Basho abandoned Ripple, you should think twice before using RiakRecord.

Callbacks are called in this order:

  • before_save
  • before_create or before_update
  • ...update_links...
  • ...save...
  • after_create or after_update
  • after_save

RiakRecord::Finder

RiakRecord::Finder provides find objects by indexes. Results are loaded in batches as needed.

finder = Post.where(:category => 'ruby') #> Instance of RiakRecord::Finder
finder.count #> 1
finder.any? #> true
finder.any?{|o| o.category == 'php'} #> false
finder.none? #> false
finder.each{|e| ... } #> supports all enumerable methods
finder.count_by(:author_id) #> {"1" => 1}. Works with declared data attributes and indexes
finder.pluck(:author_id) #> [1,2,3]. Works with declared data attributes and indexes

Pagination

records, contination_token = finder.page() # returns the first 100 records.
records2, contination_token = finder.page(contination_token, 10) # returns records 101-10

RiakRecord::Associations

RiakRecord supports has_many and belongs_to associations which are light versions of what you'd expect with ActiveRecord.

RiakRecord::Callbacks

RiakRecord supports before and after callbacks for save, create and update. You can prepend or append callbacks. And they can be strings (eval'd), Procs, Objects or Symbols.

Using RiakRecord::Associations in other classes

If you're using another data store with Riak, it might be helpful to include Riak's associations in the other class.

Speeding up count, pluck and count_by methods using erlang map reduce functions

Compile riak_record_kv_mapreduce.erl and install it into your riak nodes.

RiakRecord::Base.finder_class = RiakRecord::Finder::ErlangEnhanced

Contributing to riak-record

  • Check out the latest master to make sure the feature hasn't been implemented or the bug hasn't been fixed yet.
  • Check out the issue tracker to make sure someone already hasn't requested it and/or contributed it.
  • Fork the project.
  • Start a feature/bugfix branch.
  • Commit and push until you are happy with your contribution.
  • Make sure to add tests for it. This is important so I don't break it in a future version unintentionally.
  • Please try not to mess with the Rakefile, version, or history. If you want to have your own version, or is otherwise necessary, that is fine, but please isolate to its own commit so I can cherry-pick around it.
