space-cadet is a Ruby gem for spaces — task-scoped project workspaces that hold repos, notes, and artifacts under one obvious filesystem root. One binary, space, over the Space::Core library. It pairs with jetpks/space-architect (the Architect Loop, which runs on top of spaces) and jetpks/repo-tender (which tends the evergreen checkouts spaces provision from).

Lineage: this repo is the space tool's original home (the v1.0.0 era); the tool was absorbed into space-architect (up to 8.0.0) and is extracted back out here as of 9.0.0.

or add gem "space-cadet" to your Gemfile and bundle install. The gem installs one executable, space. 🎀

gem install binds space to whichever Ruby is active — switch project Rubies and the binary follows (or breaks). Two channels sidestep that:

mise's gem: backend gives the tool its own Ruby and GEM_HOME, so it keeps working when a project switches Rubies:

mise use -g gem:space-cadet

One honest caveat: when the tool's own Ruby gets a minor-version bump, the installed gem needs a rebuild:

mise install --force gem:space-cadet

brew install jetpks/tap/space-cadet

The jetpks/tap tap is auto-added — no separate brew tap step. The formula installs the gem on Homebrew's own Ruby, so it's immune to Ruby switches, and updates flow through brew upgrade.

Pick by taste: Homebrew for macOS-first folks who don't manage Rubies, mise if you're already a mise user, plain gem install otherwise.
